Understanding gestalt

What is gestalt therapy?

Gestalt provides a practical, creative approach to psychotherapy. It emphasises that we can only be understood as part of the environment in which we live, and underlines the connection between events and the settings in which they occur.

Find a therapist

Gestalt works with awareness in the present moment: what is happening in the body, in the room, and between therapist and client. Growing that moment-to-moment awareness within therapy expands the choices we have about how we meet our world.

The relationship between therapist and client is at the heart of the work. Rather than techniques applied from outside, gestalt offers a collaborative, human meeting in which change can happen.

Ethics and professional conduct

Every GPTI-accredited therapist works within our ethical framework and professional conduct procedures, and is insured for practice. If something feels wrong in your therapy, you can raise it with us.

Choosing a therapist

Choosing a therapist is personal: many people speak with two or three before deciding. Every therapist in our directory is accredited by GPTI or in accredited training, so you can look with confidence.

Training with GPTI
